We believe there are many reasons why you should choose Better at Home as your live in provider:
We directly employ all our live in carers
Better at Home directly employs all our live in staff. We are not an introduction agency. All of our live in carers have passed a thorough screening and interview process. We undertake a minimum of two references and complete a Protection of Vulnerable Adults (POVA) check and an enhanced Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check. All of our live in carers have previous care experience. We only employ live in staff who we would trust to care for a member of our own family.
Award winning care training
Each live in carer completes an initial five day induction course delivered by our training manager, a qualified nurse. This covers food hygiene, medication, health and safety, manual handling, continence care and emergency first aid. Our carers also undertake additional training in specific conditions appropriate to the client's needs, for example specialised dementia or Parkinson's training. Better at Home actively encourages and supports live in staff to obtain their National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ) in Health and Social Care. We have been Highly Commended in the 2009 Train to Gain Outstanding Employer of the Year.
Personalised care plan
Each client is provided with a personalised care plan based on the information gathered during a care consultation. The care plan sets out the daily activities, routine and preferences to be followed by the live in carer. The care plan is flexible and regular changes can be made. Any medication is recorded on a separate medication chart and must be signed for by the live in carer each time and medication is prompted or administered.
Matching the carer and client
We take time during the care consultation to get to know the client including their hobbies and interests, as we understand the importance of companionship within a live in setting. We pride ourselves on matching clients and live in carers with complementary personalities.
Local support and backup
Unlike many other live in providers, Better at Home focuses on providing care locally within ninety minutes of our offices, This allows our office based staff and field based seniors to regularly visit our clients and live in carers to provide support and monitor standards. We have good working relationships with local care professionals such as GPs, district nurses, occupational therapists and social services which is useful when third parties are also involved in the provision of care.
Links to our home care service
Our close links to our home care service means that we can provide a second carer when required, for example, if hoisting or transfers are required at specific times of day. We can also cover the live in carer's breaks ensuring the client is never left alone and vulnerable.
