We believe there are many reasons why you should choose Better at Home as your home care provider:
We directly employ all our carers
Better at Home directly employs all our staff. We are not an introduction agency. All of our HomeCarers have passed a thorough screening and interview process. We undertake a minimum of two references and complete a Protection of Vulnersable Abults (POVA) check and an enhanced Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check. All of our HomeCarers are fluent in English and we only employ staff who we would trust to care for a member of our own family.
Award winning training
Each HomeCarer completes an initial five day induction course delivered by our training manager, a qualified nurse. This covers food hygiene, medication, health and safety, manual handling, continence care and emergency first aid. Our carers also undertake additional training in specific conditions appropriate to the client's needs, for example specialised dementia or Parkinson's training. Better at Home actively encourages and supports staff to obtain their National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ) in Health and Social Care. We have been Highly Commended in the 2009 Train to Gain Outstanding Employer of the Year Awards in recognition of our excellent training.
Personalised care plan
Each client is provided with a personalised care plan based on the information gathered during a care assessment. The care plan sets out the daily activities, routine and preferences to be followed by the HomeCarer. The care plan is flexible and regular changes can be made. Any medication is recorded on a separate medication chart and must be signed for by the HomeCarer each time and medication is prompted or administered.
Continuity of care
We take time during the care assessment to get to know the client including their hobbies and interests, as we understand the importance of companionship and continuity of carer. We always do our best to match clients and HomeCarers with a good personality fit and always ensure there is as much continuity of carer as is practically possible when we prepare the rotas.
Local support and backup
Unlike many other larger providers, Better at Home focuses on providing care locally from our two offices in Surrey. Our field based seniors visit every client once a month to monitor standards and to ensure that you are happy with the care we are providing. We have good working relationships with local care professionals such as GPs, district nurses, occupational therapists and social services which is useful when third parties are also involved in the provision of care.
Links to our live-in service
Our close links to our live-in care service means that we can provide 24/7 support if you require this at a later stage. There is no stressful upheaval and you can continue to live in your own home with the comfort and security that the same provider is continuing to look after you.
