Our award winning carer induction training is second to none. Organised by our training manager, a qualified nurse, all new Home Carers and Live-in carers undertake an initial 5 day classroom induction training course at our one of our dedicated training centres in Surrey (either in Knaphill, Woking or Ewell near Epsom). The induction training uses a number of teaching methods including presentations, classroom discussions, video and practical demonstrations. At the end of each module we test competence and understanding by a combination of quizes and practical exercises.
Day 1: Induction orientation, Principles of care, Health and safety, Fire safety, Infection Control
Day 2: Protection of Vulnerable adults (POVA), Food hygiene
Day 3: Medication, Catheter care
Day 4: Moving and handling
Day 5: Emergency aid (basic first aid)
At the end of the 5 day classroom training, each Home Carer is assigned a Buddy, an experienced Home Carer who takes responsibility for taking the new Home Carer into the field and shadowing them to develop their practical care skills. Only when you and your Buddy are confident in your abilities to carry our a care visit alone, will you be assigned clients without supervision.
During your first 12 weeks you will receive a number of working supervisions and random checks to support to in your development. You will also receive additional training in Dementia Awareness and Communication. This training normally takes place in weeks 5-7 of your start date. At the end of your first 12 weeks we will provide you with the opportunity to enroll for your NVQ2 in Health and Social Care.
