Miss C, Epsom | Dementia

Miss C was introduced to Better at Home by the social care team.  She was not having any help and had been a very independent lady for many years.  However she had become forgetful, confused, disoriented and was feeling annoyed with herself that she could no longer do the things she had done for herself for so many years.

The Better at Home dementia team have worked hard to give this lady a better quality of life.  She is accepting of personal care, she goes out shopping, attends a day centre, completes her own banking and has her hair styled each Wednesday.

She has been introduced to the Ashby Memory Method, a brain fitness program developed in Canada for dementia sufferers.  One of our specialist dementia HomeCarers is working with this lady introducing fun sessions of exercises and working through a structured course.  The first session has been extremely successful, so watch this space for further news!

Mrs B, Ewell | Dementia

Mrs B was introduced to Better at Home by the social care team.  She had self neglected for several months and spent most of her days in bed.  Her family had tried to encourage her with eating and going out but she refused any help offered.  A person centred care plan was put into place by the dementia team.  Within a few weeks this lady was accepting of personal care and eating regularly.

As time has progressed we have introduced more structure and when the team felt she would be accepting we have arranged for her to go along to a day centre one day a week.  The dementia senior carer initially went with her but left her alone once settled.

A few months on this lady now goes to a day centre 3 times a week, is accepting of personal care, eats a well balanced diet and is even interested in dancing again!  The only time she now spends in bed is at night time.

Clive, Woking | Multiple Sclerosis

Clive suffers from multiple sclerosis and has been married to Gladys for 30 years.  Better at Home provide a Home Carer for an hour each morning and 30 minutes in the evening.  The Home Carer works with Gladys to assist Clive to wash, dress and transfer in and out of bed using specialist equipment.  Three weeks a year Gladys visits her sister in canada.  During this time Better at Home provides a live in carer so she can have a well deserved break.

Amanda, Guildford | Learning Diabilities

Amanda suffers from learning disabilities and poor mobility.  Our Home Carers assist Amanda in the mornings to get up and get ready for work.  Twice a week we assist her with household chores and every Wednesday accompany her swimming.  Last December her Home Carer took her to London for the first time to visit a west end show.

Ruby, Weybridge | Vascular Dementia

Ruby suffers from vascular dementia and type 2 diabetes.  Our specialist dementia trained Home Carers visit Ruby four times a day to assist with personal care, drinks and meals, medication and to provide conversation and companionship.  They understand the importance of encouragement and ensuring that Ruby eats at regular times.
